The Owlc! (That’s an Owl-Cow!)

  • NB: I took a break from my other project today to finish this story, I know this isn’t very well written, I have more fun explaining this one to people in person so writing it down was hard. But its a story that we are all different, even if we try sometimes to fit in and be the same…

Feel free to point out mistakes so I can fix them!

    The Owlc! (That’s an Owl-Cow!)

    In a tree
    In the night
    A cow sat
    Perched high up

    With two horns
    And black spots
    Upon a beautiful, pretty
    Milky white coat

Now if you think that is strange
A Cow in a tree… late at night!
Well there is something stranger than that!
And that’s a cow who calls out

    “Moo hoo
    Moo hoo!”

    BUT…

    Why did this Cow
    Sit in a tree!?
    And why did it say
    Moo hoo, Moo hoo?!

Well the answer to such questions
Is actually quite a short story
And if you want I will share with you
    Perhaps you may learn something.

    You see…
    Cows are Copy-cows,
But of course you knew that…
    They love to steal things,
That other creatures and critters do best…

    And this cow…
In a strange kind of way,
Thought that she would different, an individual,
    Against the usual Goat-Stealing ways.

So she sneaked away late at night,
When all the others cows were deep in slumber….
Tip towing on her hoofs, as quiet as she could
A skill she “borrowed’ from a mouse of course.

And so this copy-cow went on an adventure
To spy on critters big and small
    To find the perfect one,
    That she could copy!

    She first found a sheep,
And tried to sleep like one,
Only she found the lack of wool
    Made it rather uncomfortable!

    Next she found Frog
Sitting on a lilly in a pond
Only when she tried to sit in there
There was a BIG SPLASH and she fell in

    After shaking herself dry…
She then found a kitty cat
She followed the kitty cat for hours
Only when the cat went through a cat door…
She found she was to big to fit!

And so the copy-cow got a bit upset,
Who could she copy to be different?
Which is kind of a silly idea when you think about it,
How can you be different if your copying?

It was then in a tree
    she spotted an owl,
Going “hoo hoo” way up high
She tilted her head and thought for a minute,
    And then decided…
    That’s who she should copy!

So up the tree she managed to climb
Which is tricky for a cow!
and when she reached the top branches
She perched just like the owl.

She watched for hours and hours
    She copied all she saw
And when the owl near by went

    “Hoo Hoo!
    Hoo Hoo!”

    The cow copied fast!

    “Moo Hoo
    Moo Hoo!”

    She went
    Then got a bit confused

    “That’s not right”

    Said the cow to herself,
    Trying over and over again…

    “Moo Hoo
    Moo Hoo”

    She went again…
    Getting rather frustrated
    And a little bit mad
That she could not make a call
Like the owl she was near.

    Before she could try again
    The Owl near by
    Who was rather wise…
    As Owls often are…
I think its to do with their big eyes…

    Flew on over…
    And asked the cow.

    “What are you doing Cow
    Sitting in a Tree
    Why are you not sleeping
    As a Cow should be?”

    The Cow told the Owl
    All about her quest
    To be different and unique
    From all the rest…

    She told the Owl
    Of all her troubles
    With the call Owls make
But how she went “Moo Hoo”

    The listening wise Owl
    Being wise as owls were,
    Listened and nodded
    Then said to the Cow

    “Oh Cow, Cow,
Who wishes to copy an Owl,
There will be parts of you,
    That you can’t change.
No matter how hard you try
They will always be that way
You have Fur… I have feathers
These are things we can’t change…
    But that’s ok…
    These are the things,
    That make us unique
Not all cows have the same spots
Just as not all Owls have the same wings.
    So you are already Unique
You don’t have to try and be”

    The Cow thought about this
And thanked the Owl so much,
But she was having fun pretending to be an Owl
    So she continued on…
But this time she did it differently,
She did it with a smile!

    “Moo hoo
    Moo hoo!”

    She called out proudly.

What a fantastic story Matty… I smiled the whole time I read it and it makes a great start to my cold Monday morning.

Many HUgs and Lots of love!

  • That’s a great little story, Angel. I really think with some nice illustrations it could be a children’s book.
