Little Seals Adventure! (Children’s Story)
-
NB: I wrote this as an entry for a children’s manuscript competition and it didn’t win or get short-listed. So here it is for you all to read! You may remember that a draft of this was posted once, but its nothing like this final edited copy.
I also want to give a special thank you to my very cool, wonderifical friend- Author, illustrator and Artist Angela Oliver! Who kindly helped with editing and reading this story for the competition it was entered into.

Little Seals Adventure!
By Matty AngelLittle Seals Adventure
Through the ocean swimming fast, Little Seal was having fun.
She made lots of noise as she swam about:
Splitter, splatter; plitter platter! She twirled, she jumped; she swirled and turned about.
She was enjoying her day…… that was until she came upon something strange.
A deep, dark tunnel that looked like it went on forever.
“I’m going to explore this,” she decided. “And see where it goes.”Through the tunnel, she wiggled and crawled.
It was dark and gloomy, but she was brave. At last she reached the end, but found herself stuck as she tried to squeeze out.
She gave a twist, a turn and a bit of a squirm then with a flip and a flop, she tumbled out with a “Plop!”“Where am I?†She wondered, looking about…
… at buildings tall; metal, wheeled machines and not much water…
“Oh no!” She panicked.
She tried to turn back, but she couldn’t reach – the hole she had come out of, it was too high for her to get back into. She wiggled and waddled through what water there was
It smelled a little funny… it wasn’t like the ocean. The noises from all around roared really loud.
“I am lost,” she cried, but noone stopped to listen.
She wiggled and waddled and wiggled some more
Until at last, after going so very far,
she came across a house with a wide open door. She waddled inside, looking about, and saw a little girl, eating her lunch.
This girl was not very big but she looked very smart.
“I’ll ask her for help,” Little Seal thought, but she couldn’t speak People.
“Arf arf art orf.”
She said in Seal, the girl looked at her, confused. Then she ran away!“Why is she scared of me?” Little Seal wondered. “How will I get home?” She worried.
But before Little Seal could begin to cry, the little girl came back just as fast as she had gone.
This time she had a much a bigger human following. The little girl spoke to the seal:
“This is my mother,” she said. “She will help you.”They got a little pool and filled it with water for Little Seal.
Little Seal forgot about going home, as she jumped into the water and splashed about.
“I love water!” She cried.
Of course the girl and her mother just heard “ARF!”After a while of playing, there was a kind of roar…
Perhaps it was a grumble?
Well it was some kind of noise!
It was a big white machine, with a box on its back.
It had round wheels, and big letters on its hood!A man came out of it, right from inside.
He went up to Little Seal and chatted friendly and nice.
He fed Little Seal a fish – one that tasted funny, but Little Seal was hungry
So she gobbled it up, and after she felt tired…
Then slowly but surely, Little Seal fell asleep…And next time she awoke… She was on the beach!
Little Seal didn’t stop to think how she got back…
She rushed into ocean. She was so happy!
And as she hopped into the water,
she took one look back……And there on the sand, waving with a jump, was the little girl who looked so happy!
Then beside her the two other people.
They all had big smiles as they stood beside the truck. They watched Little Seal swim away.
She was home at last.
