I twisted, twirled, skipped and jumped. (Poem-Story — DANCE! )
-
NB: This is just my very long way to say I went to dance class and I liked it!
I twisted, twirled, skipped and jumped
There I was in the doorway…
In a place I have never been
Wishing to run away…
While hoping that I stay. There were strangers up ahead,
And adventures to be had.
I didn’t know how this would go
My heart was beating and I’m scared.I have dreams of what’s coming in the future
But many fears too…
However I know I’m among safe people
I can tell by how they talk, smile and interactAnd then it begins!
Something I could have never dreamed
Inclusion, smiles, joy, laughter
And dancing… Yes… I was at dance class…
I WAS THERE!We start by introducing, and signing the letter of our first name.
Followed by a game or copying, I tried my best but it was hard…
Then there was some fun of stopping and starting,
I had anxiety attack during this bit.
Touching is still so hard for me…
But, I did try my best and hope no one was upset. Then for the final act
Dancing in a circle with a ribbon.
My ribbon in fact!
As many of you know I carry one everywhere. My turn with the ribbon was last
I twisted, twirled, skipped and jumped.
I swished it,
I breathed in the music
And I just explored what I didn’t know…
An expression I had never tried before. When all had finished and it was time to go home
I was a bit overwhelmed.
I had just done something that I didn’t know I was missing.
And… I think I was proud.
I had overcome my fearI think I will go again.
