A letter I have written regarding Roe v Wade as shared on twitter.

I debated all day if I should say anything about the Roe v Wade situation in the USA. As a New Zealander I am very far away from the emotions and conflict over there. However… As a Christian I have decided to say something. Which is very rare for me when it comes to politics.

I hope none of you will judge me harshly for these words. I hope they cause no hurt to any of you. The decision to share them is because there maybe a small chance someone is helped by them.

For clarity. I am a member of the LGBTQI+ Community. Which upsets many people of various faiths. This is despite me having transitioned through my faith. A lot of prayer and time was taken in those decisions. I believe it is what my great all loving God wished for me.

Through my faith I have dedicated my life to help those when able, to the best of my ability. I do not discriminate against those needing help based on their faith, Sex, Gender, Disability or Race. I try my best to never say a harsh or mean word. and to always act with kindness.

As a Christian, I am an ambassador for God. Those who are Christians are Children to an Almighty King, Princes and Princesses for a Kingdom beyond our understanding. I do not wish to convert others… but instead show them God through my actions and life.

I understand as a Christian that life is precious. However I also know that life is fragile. I support Roe v Wade (Abortion rights), not because I “want to support murder” as some have claimed. But because I know what it means to be unloved, unwanted, and alone.

I often wish I was aborted and never born. The pain I have gone through in my life has haunted me. It still haunts me. If a child is not going to be born into this world loved and adored… then I think they should not be born at all.

As a Teenager I was homeless. I met many people who had run away from foster care and the system or their families. Young children from ages 12 to 17. The cemetery was always safest at night. “The Adults were scared of these places” they would say.

Some believe that adoption is a solution. However the sad truth is… there are far more unwanted, unloved and alone children in the system… than their is places for them.
I may change my mind one day… if there was a way to ensure every child had a perfect, incredible life.

Sadly that is a fantasy, at least for now. And one I think people forget. As a Christian I see people shouting at those getting Abortions … saying “Murder!” Yet those same people don’t seem to put the same time into supporting children after they are born.

As a Christian I can only show the Kingdom of God through action. To shout hurtful and painful words and to curse at those who do not believe what you do… Is akin to blasphemy. A sin against the Spirit. For as a Christian we should believe only God can Judge. Not us Mortals.

All actions that amount to humanly sinful conduct are forgiven. That is a core part of what makes you a Christian. That means. These people you curse down… if they are indeed sinning… are only sinning as much as you are. But perhaps you are sinning more by doubting God..

God never did lay a measurement for what Sins are worse than another. It is He who decides… and that will only be when we reach his Kingdom. It is not our Job to force our will on others as Christians. But instead to show others by Action and Kindness who and what God is.

I am not sure if any of this will make sense to anyone… but I will part with 1 peter 3 8-12

    8) Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble.
    9) Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.
    10) For, “Whoever would love life and see good days must keep their tongue from evil and their lips from deceitful speech.
    11) They must turn from evil and do good;
they must seek peace and pursue it.
    12) For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous
and his ears are attentive to their prayer,
but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”

So this is my take as a Christian. One who spends a lot of time thinking, who reads the bible daily. And who makes sure to spend at least an hour in prayer a day. You may not agree or understand me… And that is okay. But maybe someone will be helped by my words.

That’s very well written, Matty, I support the right to an abortion, but I also support doing more to prevent the need for abortions.

I would hope that you (and everybody else) feel glad to be born and loved.

  • Well said, Matty. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

  • Wonderfully put, Matty. You are a treasure.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Being in the US, it infuriates me that people who say they are Christian want to prevent abortions no matter the cost but refuse to support children once they are born. They don’t want to provide them with food, clothing, shelter, healthcare, guarantee they have loving families, or are safe in schools. It blows my mind.
