Remembered Forever – ANZAC DAY 2012

To the sound of torn songs
With broken wings, they marched forward
Young and stubborn, brave and strong
    Comrades with a common cause

Now only weary eyes can tell us
What was seen those days and nights
With broken hearts and stripped souls
Their tears speak more than words can tell us

But what words can do, is show us all
Warn us with truth that can only be mourned
Names of the lost, the fallen and loved
As they rest upon crosses, never abandoned.

These heroes of memory shall be as they were
Not yet aged, with smiles, many full of youth
And as we try to live up to the courage they showed
We remember them always, with respect and honor.

They may not be able to sit at our tables
They may not be able to share in our meals
Their laughter may be a distant ring
And many may now rest, far from where they once slept

But what has been done for us, brings them closer
As close as our hopes, our dreams, our desires
To the soul of our nations, our beliefs, our cultures
Sewn into the fabric, that makes up all our beings

With them this close they can never fade
Remembered forever as we look to them for strength
Guiding lights in a sky so dark
Forever in our minds, forever close to our hearts.
