World Autism Day 2019
-
Today is World Autism Awareness Day, its a strange day for me. Sometimes I think Autism has enough awareness by me just going out into the community! And sometimes I think no amount of awareness will make people make time for me so what is the point? But at same time I am glad this is a day because autism is so complicated for me and everyone else, there is always more to learn.
On this day, at least for me. I want to make sure that I take the time to thank everyone who makes it possible for me to be in the community.
Community Workers who take me to appointments, Doctors who treat me for various illnesses in ways that are comfortable, my counselor who listens, Care and support Workers for looking after me, helping me grocery shop…
Oh and Especially Friends who… even though I can be embarrassing and difficult sometimes… still invite me out and take me places. Look after me and care about me even though its not there job.The wonderful people at my dance group, who allow me to take part, never get mad that I am hitting my head or scared … and work with me to find ways around my issues and be brave.
I also want to thank the strangers out there who also make me welcome. From the people who sometimes let my carer and I move ahead of them in ques … to the wonderful lady recently at the store who helped me and my care worker find clothes to try on that I might like. And the people at the grocery stores, the butchers, and other places who remember me and always make me feel welcome 🙂
I am really bad with words sometimes, but just know. I am thankful. I love the chances I get to be out in the world and I am so glad that you are all in my life. Including you strangers! Thank you all for making it possible.
Love Matty Angel

Hello Matty! Very well said! Good job friend! 💕ðŸ˜ðŸ‘
It’s people like you and I, (If you didn’t know it, I’m on the spectrum too.) who wear our autism openly, that are bringing about that awareness and acceptance.
So, Matty, big kudos for having the courage to help that awareness happen around the world; you are making a difference for us all.
Beautifully said, Matty. I’m so glad that you have all the help that you do and that you get to go out as much as you do. Of course, I’ll always wish for more for you, but it’s nice that you have what you have.
Wonderful post Matty those are great things to be grateful for. Sometimes in all the chaos this world offers its a good thing to find the good things in life to feel grateful about, Love you much 🙂
