Growing-Up – Good Luck
When I was younger I heard so many opinions,
Opinions for the most part that I had no interest in remembering
But the ones I listened to, that turned out to be hurtful
Were the opinions Grown-Ups had on what “Growing Up” meant. Some said I had to like certain things
Others said dislike,.
I was told I had to give up toys I loved,
Even throw some out at one point.I was even encouraged to wear certain clothes
To speak a certain way…
That school decisions decided your life,
Even that being bullied was “normal” and “okay”…Since becoming a weirdly complicated interesting Grown-Up
I have sadly learned that these people were wrong
“Growing Up” can mean so many things,
And none of them are the same
It’s an individual experience,
And those opinions can harm…Each time someone said “these decisions will decide your life”
They were making it seem like there was no hope if things went wrong
Especially if that wrong is that you are very different.
In this I think teachers perhaps need to be more carefulThen there are those who made me give up what I loved,
Chased me away from what I enjoyed…
And turned me off what could have been…
Making it take years before I realized I could dream again,I guess I am saying…
Its okay to be different,
That there is a place for you,
Even if it’s hard to find it at first.I have learned this through my “Growing Up”
But I sure wish someone had told me sooner.
You can be who you want to be,
You can love what you wish too,
That you are beautiful
And only change what you want to.Good luck.
One Response and Counting...
Growing up is learning that people often don’t know what growing up is until it suddenly happens. 🙂
