They Drown Out Voices

  • NB: I hate how political Autism has become. I call it toxic positivity. We are suppose to not want a cure… and blame society for all the issues Autism brings. Do they just not understand the struggles some have? I am starting to think the merging of the DSMV Autism diagnosis is causing more harm than good.

    They Drown Out Voices

I read a poem the other day
It said Autism needs no cure.
However that person is not me
They don’t feel what I feel.

There seems to be a misunderstanding
At least since things were renamed
    That society is the problem
    Not the brain.

    However those that feel this
    They come from privilege
    That of communication
    Of function and ability

They most likely do not suffer
Like I and my friends do
    Struggling to find words
    And feeling things so cruel

    They probably don’t cry
And throw there head upon a wall
    Because someone asked them questions
    And Answers couldn’t form

    I wonder if they know
    All the frustration I carry
    Because I can’t dress myself
Or go out on my own.

    Do they know their emotions?
    Cause I sure do not
    My friends are the same
    We feel so much pain

So as I write these words
    I find myself quite hurt
That this poem feels the need
To make sure I am not heard.
